Santa Monica Pickleball & Padel On 4th

I’d give the ego vibe meter at FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - Advanced Open play 4.5 an 8.5/10. I never write reviews, but I’m so annoyed I had to say something. If you play pickleball, you know how awesome the people usually are, the comradery and how much fun you have meeting new players. This open play sucked every bit of that joy right out of me. Second time trying it, and within 20 minutes I felt like I was walking around with a sign that said “I’ve got the plague and I’m here to sleep with your sister.” Last time I went, in a full 3-hour session I only got on the court for 6 games. If you’re not already part of the clique, forget it. People will literally look the other way, pretend they don’t see you, and just keep playing with their buddies. Unless you roll up with friends or are 5.0 or sponsored player find another spot. I’m not some 5.0 hotshot and never will be, but I’m solid, I can definitely hang at a 4.5 level. Doesn’t matter though, nobody even gives you a shot, I put my paddle down to get in the rotation and you can see the anxiety on their faces scrambling to figure out how to get out of letting a newbie get into some play. The funny thing is I’m not even a super friendly guy, I’m just there to play good games have no interest in chit chat other than your name and hearing the score during our game but the atmosphere here makes you feel like you are trying to be their best friend 🤣. By all means go book a court, sign up for their clinics or tournaments, whatever. Those are great and ran by super friendly SMPC people. But if you don’t know anyone and you’re not a 5.0 or one of the regulars, stay away from the Friday advanced (4.5+) open play 4pm-7pm. It’s not worth the hassle or the drive. You’ll just stand there watching everyone else have fun making you feel like it’s your first day of Pickleball 🤣. Made the mistake twice and there will be no third mistake for this guy 😎.
This place is so much fun. The courts play very well with very few ball on's. It's so new and clean and there's a shade area to relax. They thought of everything!
The guy working there, Tyler, is super respectful and helpful. The courts are kept in amazing condition and the music they play is good. There are opportunities to demo some Joola paddles and you can be provided with balls. I would 100% recommend.
This is a beautiful outdoor court where you can play day or night. The staff is incredible and it is immaculately maintained. Easy parking at the structure on 4th. Free for an hour and a half!! Don’t fret about street parking. If I could give this place more stars I would!! Restrooms and water available!
